In this new three-part series craftsman Jay Blades and interior design fanatic Laura Jackson head to the country’s most stunning and far flung locations as they go on the hunt for Britain’s Best Beach Huts. These beautiful little buildings are a staple of the British seaside and with more than 20,000 of them dotted across our coastline and clifftops, their variety is as staggering as their number. Each week Jay and Laura battle it out to see who can find the ultimate hut on a specific theme ( traditional with a twist, luxurious and cutting edge ) in journeys celebrating the wonders of our coastline and its residents, with a surprise behind every door.

C4 Premiere - June 2023

Episode 1

Our dynamic duo go in search of the best traditional beach hut with a twist, discovering how the interiors of these tiny treasures are as varied as their owners. Jay starts his adventures in Norfolk, meeting a fellow craftsman who’s created an amazing multi-coloured patchwork hut made entirely of driftwood, before heading to Herne Bay where wedding bells are in the air at a unique beach hut on the pier. In Hampshire Laura’s transported into a 1940’s timewarp, then heads east to Essex where an inspirational beach hut owner is making dreams come true, finally ending her first beach hut hunt in Hastings discovering how the town’s three storey Victorian ‘net shops’ have been at the heart of this community for 200 years. Five fabulous huts – but which will be crowned Britain’s best?

Episode 2

Jay and Laura go on the hunt for the most luxurious beach huts Britain has to offer. Jay starts his journey in Dorset at Britain’s most expensive beach huts, where a spot on the sand will set you back a cool half a million pounds. Catching his breath he heads to Scotland, through a smugglers tunnel to a secret beach hut on the shores of a private bay, before ending his quest in the original seaside resort of Scarborough where the town’s deluxe double decker huts are possibly Britain’s brightest. Laura discovers a complete wellness centre contained in a beautiful handcrafted hut beach hut in Margate, before seeing how a building that was once the birthplace of telecommunications now offers an extravagant beach hut escape in splendid isolation on the stunning West Wales coast.

Episode 3

For their final outing Jay and Laura search for the country’s most cutting edge 21st century beach hut. In Lincolnshire Jay discovers possibly the best view from a loo when he visits a very modern hut built on a disused toilet, before travelling south to Eastbourne discovering a take-away café built in a pair of beach hut binoculars, made to move with the sun. Finally he heads to the edge of Aberdeenshire where a beautiful beach hut fishing bothy offers stunning views over a timeless landscape whilst being packed with every modern gadget under the sun. Laura tours an eco-beach hut village in Wales where 21st recycling is taken to the max, before heading to Hampshire where possibly the country’s toughest and most innovative beach huts double up as a seawall to hold back the tide.
