UK public broadcaster Channel 4 has commissioned a travel series featuring actor Richard E Grant, with multiple international broadcasters joining as coproduction partners or prebuyers.
The CBC in Canada is a copro partner, while SBS in Australia, HRT in Croatia, Prima Group in the Czech Republic, BBC UKTV in New Zealand and Greece’s Cosmote have prebought the series.
Produced by UK-based Emporium Productions, Richard E Grant’s Very Modern Odyssey (4×60’) will launch around the same time as Christopher Nolan’s feature film The Odyssey, based on Homer’s epic, this month.
Silverlining Rights brokered the deals and is handling worldwide distribution of the series.
The series sees Grant follow the route of Odysseus’s 10-year voyage around Europe, Asia Minor and North Africa, from Turkey to Tunisia, through Sicily and Italy and on to Greece and his final destination, the island of Ithaca.
Richard E Grant’s Very Modern Odyssey is directed by Paul Bithrey and produced by Rob McCabe. Kathy Hale is the director of production. The series is created and executive produced by Emporium’s founder and MD Emma Read.
