Nine broadcasters have joined forces to coproduce fast-turnaround documentary Turbulence: How Safe Is Your Flight?, about the death of a passenger onboard a Singapore Airlines plane on May 21.
UK production financing broker and distributor Silverlining Rights brought together the coproduction partners to greenlight the project just days after the tragedy occurred.
The broadcasters are ITV (UK), Seven Network (Australia), Welt (Germany), TV4 (Sweden), MTV (Finland), TV2 (Denmark), RTL (Netherlands), DPG (Belgium) and RTS (Switzerland).
The 1×60’ doc, produced by UK prodco Emporium Productions (Rich Holiday Poor Holiday), uses minute-by-minute analysis of flight SQ321 to examine the science of turbulence and features interviews with passengers, pilots and air crew.
Bethan Corney, founder and MD at Bristol-based Silverlining, said: “Turbulence: How Safe Is Your Flight? has mass global appeal and we expect more broadcasters and platforms to come on board with this topical, eye-opening and informative documentary.”
Emma Read, founder and MD at Emporium, added: “Emporium has extensive experience of fast-turnaround films and Silverlining’s partnership was paramount once again to getting our documentary fully funded and into production in just five days.”
