Smithsonian Channel in the US has ordered a one-off documentary about the earthquakes that struck Nepal in April from a fledgling UK production outfit.
Nepal Quake: Terror on Everest (1×60′) tells the story of the quakes and their aftermath through eyewitness testimony of survivors in Kathmandu and on Mount Everest, and also explores the science behind the disaster.
The show is being produced by UK-based Emporium Productions, which was launched by Emma Read earlier this year and has backing from Hat Trick Productions. Read exec produces alongside David Royle and Charles Poe for Smithsonian and the show debuts at 21.00 on June 8.
More than 8,000 people are thought to have died as a result of the two quakes in April, which caused widespread destruction throughout the region
