SVT, NRK, SBS among international buyers braced for Storms from Above from Good TV, Silverlining Rights

Broadcasters in Europe, Australia and Hong Kong have acquired science documentary Storms from Above from independent production finance broker and distributor Silverlining Rights.

SVT in Sweden, NRK in Norway, DPG in Belgium, LRT in Lithuania, Prima Group in the Czech Republic and ORF in Austria have acquired the one-hour doc, which was produced by Good TV and aired on the UK’s 5 with the title Storms from Space earlier this month.

SBS in Australia and RTHK in Hong Kong will also air the doc, which reveals how cutting-edge technology is helping scientists track the most dangerous weather like never before.

Flying laboratories, high-altitude drones and futuristic weather satellites are able to warn the world’s populations about lightning, tornadoes and hurricanes and minimise the destruction they cause when they make landfall.

The sales follow Silverlining’s previous international roll-out of Good TV’s Hurricanes from Above, which has also been sold to SBS, Prima Group and RTHK.

London-based Good TV was set up in late 2021 by former BBC commissioning editor Elliot Reed, who was also an executive producer for documentaries and factual entertainment at Love Productions for six years.

Bethan Corney, founder and MD at Silverlining Rights, said: “Audiences everywhere are fascinated by extreme weather events, and particularly as climate change appears to be making these events more frequent and more damaging.

“Storms from Above is full of dramatic, eye-opening footage as well as information and explanation from top scientists battling to prevent these weather events causing ever-worse destruction.”
