Bringing Kia Home
In 2018, 18-month-old Kia Gott contracted the worst case of meningitis that doctors had seen in 25 years. As sepsis took over her body, her parents Paul and Vicki had to make the agonising decision to amputate all four of her limbs in order to save her life, but the illness left the toddler with brain damage.
This sensitive documentary tells the story of Kia’s illness and follows the family as they finally bring Kia home after months in hospital. There is little time to worry as the family adjust to life back home. Vicki is now a full time carer to Kia who needs round the clock attention. Her brother and sisters find their own ways to help and adjust to the needs of their little sister. The family attend a weekend for meningitis survivors where they meet other children like Kia and discuss the vaccination programme that failed their daughter.
As the family approach the first anniversary of Kia’s illness, she contracts a virus and is rushed to hospital. Any infection could be deadly for Kia and it is a worrying time for the whole family who pull together to fight for Kia once again.
